A 90’s Comeback

It is no secret that there has been an influx of anecdotes from the 90’s into societal trends over the course of the past decade. From popular sitcom TV shows such as Friends and Seinfeld to using a fanny pack on your everyday walk, bits and pieces of the 90’s can be seen sprinkled throughout everyday life. Consequently, 90’s clothing and accessory staples have additionally been seen to be making a huge comeback in recent years. Although many of these must-have wardrobe enhancements are often mistaken as new and up and coming, they are in fact souvenirs of decades past that have simply returned to the spotlight.

One of the most popular recent athleisure trends, biker shorts, was originally seen sported by 90’s icons such as Princess Diana herself. Her iconic outfits that consisted of cycling shorts and a pullover sweater serve as inspiration for everyday wear sold by industry dominating brands such as Lululemon, Artizia, and Alo. They are the perfect versatile staple piece for working out to loungewear and everything in between.

Secondly, there has been an immense shift from the tight skinny jeans of the 2010’s to both baggy and low waisted pants. Both low rise cargo pants and mom jeans have made a push for a less form fitting wave of apparel. The wider leg and looser fit is now dominating today’s street style, both increasingly comfortable and trendy.

Finally, remakes of slip dresses that were once worn by star Sarah Jessica Parker on 90’s hit show Sex and the City have made a reappearance in popular culture today. These spaghetti strap dresses can be seen made by Kim Kardashian’s up and coming brand, Skims. Flattering yet also classy dresses such as the ones photographed below have begun to replace previous bustier styles that have previously been rising in popularity. These nude and simplistic looks go to show how timeless a slip dress can be, as thirty years later they are now as popular as ever.
